In spite of our best efforts, we all experience a certain amount of stress as part of our daily life. As an HSP you might be particularly sensitive to (potentially) stressful moments. While a little bit of stress might just kick-start you to become your very best (just like a good cup of café might do, kick- starting you in the morning), excessive stress can interfere with normal daily activities and take a toll on your personal lives and health.
But this need not be the case. Today. I would like to invite you to try an ancient Japanese technique of self-relaxation that will not take you more than 5 minutes a day and can be done just about anywhere.
This method is part of a technique known as Jin Shin Jyutsu, the Art of releasing tensions which are the causes for various symptoms in the body. Our bodies contain several energy pathways that feed life into all of our cells. When one or more of these paths become blocked, this damming effect may lead to discomfort or even pain. This blockage or stagnation will not only disrupt the local area but will continue and eventually disharmonize the complete path or paths of the energy flow.
Thumb: helps combat emptions like anxiety and fear. The thumb is also related to the organs stomach and spleen.
Index finger: Can help to combat your fear. Is related to the organs kidney and bladder.
Middle finger: Helps you to control anger and resentment. Is related to the organs liver and gallbladder.
Ring finger: This finger will help you to fight depression and sadness. It also helps you to be more decisive. Is related to the organs lungs and colons.
Pink: Helps to calm anxiety and increases optimism and confidence. Is related to the organs heart, small intestines.
Palm: Helps to balance the overall-happiness. Related to the belly button.
The hand palm feeds into all the fingers. Vice versa, all fingers feed back into the palm. This makes it simultaneously the ‘spring’ that feeds energy into the fingers as well as the lake that collects all energy flowing out of the fingers. Therefore, working on the palm of your hand has a balancing effect on your overall happiness.
To harmonize the life energy in the body, grasp the finger with the opposite hand, wrapping all the fingers and thumb around it. Hold each finger for one to two minutes. You will know it’s working when a pulsating sensation is felt.
To calm your mind, apply slight pressure in the center of the palm with the thumb of the opposite hand and hold for at least one minute
Practice this technique every day to stay calm and re-establish the balance within yourself.
This practice is an astonishingly simple style of acupressure. It works with a set of energy points and energy pathways. When a pathway becomes blocked, energy stagnates. This initially affects the local area of stagnation, but has the potential to create imbalance along the entire pathway.
Jin Shin Jyutsu originated in Japan. It is an ancient healing practice. It was re-discovered and cultivated by Jiro Murai, a Japanese healer and philosopher, in the early 20th century. Murai resorted to Jin Shin Jyutsu during his quest to deal with his own health problems. As a young man, he known as reckless, overindulging and he entered (and won!) contests involving the consumption of immense quantities of food and drink. When, at the age of 26, he became seriously ill and doctors diagnosed his condition as incurable and terminal, he started his quest for self-healing. Read more
Murai retreated to solitude in his family’s mountain cabin. As he passed in and out of consciousness, he had visions of spiritual masters using hand mudras, which he began to practice on himself. On the seventh day he underwent an intense healing experience. He vowed to devote his life to discovering the connection between the hand mudras and his dramatic recovery. When you consult a Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner, he or she will use both hands (referred to as “jumper cables”) to hold a combination of energy points. The very simplicity and gentleness of the process allows you to relax and receive the work. Through Jin Shin Jyutsu our awareness is awakened to the simple fact that we are endowed with the ability to harmonize and balance ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually.
